Is it legal for a non-licensed individual to ship a pistol to a smith for repair? Or must you take it to an FFL to ship. It seems like I remember a proviso which allows one to ship personal property to and from a repair facility legally. Thanks for any input.

Can ship direct & the smith can ship it directly back to you since you have already gone throught the background check for that pistol (supposedy) but that's the law

and you can still ship it to yourself , thats how most competitive shooters handle their travel/firearms dilema , but you need a secure point of reciept that wont cause you trouble , and therein lies the rub

Also if you loan a firearm to someone they can ship it back to you but you have to either deliver it to them in person or ship to a FFL.
