wow have prices gone up or what?? gun store in bothel wa. has a model 35 7.5 mas for $375.00 what a buy. a few years ago they couldnt give them away. i gota admit there wernt people lined up to buy it this seems more than a little bit high priced to me. joe gifford aka argie1891

This one is not very popular over here in europe, it's a weird (french, nuff said) design that uses a proprietary ammo.
The ammo IS pretty hard to find AND expensive over here. Even last weekend at the range a guy was trying to sell his MAS cheap (as he couldn't find any affordable ammo for it anywhere), but nobody seems to want it.

a rifle of a certain caliber can be very expensive to shoot in certain areas while quite economical in others ,

They are all beautiful to me..If we all wanted the same there would be none left. OK some are a site to look at but makes them stand out in your gun rack.

Problem with selling these years ago was almost total lack of ammunition for them. A friend once ran across a dealer selling his still in the wrap 36's for twenty buck apiece just to get rid of them after months of no sales.

I once ran across a Carbine sized sporter with aftermarket thumb safety fitted. It had been brought back from Vietnam in the 60's, and no one could find ammo for it.
It may not have still been a 7.5. A civilian gundealer had built a line of low cost sporters with thumb safeties in various common european sporting calibers, such as 7X57.
The North Vietnamese converted some to 7.62X39 and issued them to female anti aircraft gunners and militia.
They also used these in 7.5 until supplies of captured ammo ran out.

The French still use the model 36 converted to 7.62 NATO as a sniper rifle.
This makes the Model 36 one of the longest serving pre WW2 designs, lasting even longer than the No.4 rifles converted to L42 sniper rifles.
