I'm betting the older people can remember Golden State Arms of Pasadena, CA and the surplus firearms they sold in the late '40s through the '60s. I didn't know much myself. The link is to my Photobucket album with lousy pics of the rifle I just bought. It's a large ring Mauser chambered for .30-06. It's no beauty queen and I think the front scope base holes are way off to the left, may have to get iron sights for it. Any info about Golden State Arms and where to find a good rear peep sight that will sit on a Weaver style mount will be appreciated. Interested in comments and advice also. http://s106.photobucket.com/albums/m274 ... sts/30-06/ Guest password mauser |

I would say try it out, see if it prints on paper. If it doesn't then try to fix the front holes. As to a rear sight, I think a williams foolproof would be a fairly in expensive route |

That's what I've been thinking. There's an old Redfield scope mount with rings on eBay that has a windage adjustment on the rear, but I don't know if the hole spacing is right. I'll have to ask the seller to measure it, I guess. |

Don't look too bad. Unless the holes are more than half a hole off I wouldn't try to get it redrilled. If they are more than half the find a gunsmith with a mill to do the drilling after plugging the other holes first. I just had one redrilled that way. Rad |
