Ramrod entry pipe...needs the 'proud wood' leveled....but I may re-shape it some, then round the surrounding wood............still 'looking at it' stage..
Image

Patch-box and side plates on....final fitting to be done when my hands are rested......kinda tedious with these plates....one miss-step with the wood gouge....and you slice off a corner :-o
this was a design my sister wanted...per-revol war ear with side-plates sort-a plain...so drew them out on brass, then cut them with a jewelers saw, then dress filed.........
Image

walnut seems porous when you get to working small area's with corners that need to remain SHARP....I can see where maple was a better wood....it will be interesting to work on Gary's rifle next...being that his cherry stock weighs less...so it must be even MORE porous.....

Looking good!!! That will keep you out of the bars... and the PH fan club site! ;) I actually worked on my Francotte Martini yesterday. Everytime I think I'm getting close, I see something I know can be better...

And that would be kaintuck's ethic: "the best isn't good enough - only perfect will do." SW

Thank you all for the comments
Sister's rifle will be a 'wall-hanger' for real.....she LOVES kentucky, and for a house warming gift, i found a old map of ken-tuck-ey and had it framed....she has it in her living room...and this rifle (when done) will hang over her fireplace on a mantel......probably will never be shot~ but I bet it would be a accurate one, the rifling was real 'purty'...........

Maybe you can build a rock-lock Howdah Pistol

Whooo-Boy that would be fun

Howdah's are usually double barrel 20ga. (or larger) They were a 'last defense' pistol to guard against tiger attacks when you were in the Howdah on the back of an elephant. .62 is a common caliber (20 ga.) these days & a .600 or .610 tightly patched ball will shoot pretty accurately out of a smooth barrel, and you can make paper shot cups and load a pretty good shot column in them too! :D

Then you need to decide if getting bit by el tigre is worse than shooting the howdah while maintaining a death grip on the basket. That may or may not be cinched down right.

You factor in an elephant rodeo when Mr Stripes climbs up his butt, it's going to be an exciting day no matter what. SW

howdah= HOD DA HIT anything??????????? :jmp: :crzy:

I have been 6 foot from iron caged ones......they have no fear in their eyes.....like a giant eating machine~humbles me!

The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest cat species, reaching a total body length of up to 3.3 metres (11 ft) and weighing up to 306 kg (670 lb).
Even with their great masses, tigers can reach speeds of about 49–65 kilometres per hour (35–40 miles per hour), although they can only do so in short bursts, since they have relatively little stamina; consequently, tigers must be relatively close to their prey before they break their cover. Tigers have great leaping ability; horizontal leaps of up to 10 metres have been reported, although leaps of around half this amount are more typical.Adult elephants are too large to serve as common prey, but conflicts between tigers and elephants do sometimes take place. A case where a tiger killed an adult Indian Rhinoceros has been observed.

ok....reality check here...I have a 27lb tom that pretty much does what he wants~sooooo increase the numbers~...600lb teeth and claws comming at 40 MPH.......seems like a 2 shot pistol has as much effect as a spear would have..... :crzy:

those pistols were neat....but i BET they were more of a bragging tool~~~

I saw a video lately that showed a tiger jumping on a person that is on an elephant. It was on Gunboards in the hunting section.

i dont think shooting it-vs-tiger attack would be a dificult call ,

but as a short bbld rifle/shotgun [if the case can be made] i would have to think twice on getting the permissions/documents , im just not that interested in such a weapon , and dont see tigers in my neighborhood as likely ,

it is a very interesting bit tho

I have been less than 25 yards from a tiger, and I'm here to tell you fast reflexes are needed. For as big as they are, they are impossibly fast. 6 or 7 of us opened up on one & having shot coyotes & such I am confident nobody hit it.

On the other hand, I have been told by a know-it-all or 2 there were no tigers in beautiful S.E. Asia, so it might have been a dream. SW
