Young sharptail fell to the 52 at about 30 yds in very thick black willows.
Bit of a chore recovering him.
Oddly enough, the crop was filled with pine needles.
The Rem thunder-turds I was using had a very hard time brush busting through all those willows, and it took a bit more than one shot to connect.

52 repro with Vortex DiamondBack 4-12 X 40mm A/O, and one happy hunter. Great tasting bird!

I will be having lunch with a few old fellows I used to work with, a couple are Grouse hunters, I will be sure to tell them of your skills,

they are members of the local Ruffed Grouse Assoc, but have to travel to the midwest to kill birds, usually with a 20 or 28 ga,

My preferred method of taking them is with a .177 air rifle and an 8 gr. class predator pellet.
The willows are a major problem this year though, and the shooting opportunities with the air gun resulted in every shot deflected away from the target.
When I was younger, and quicker, the best way was to take them on the wing with the old NEF Pardner .410 f/c. That little gun was a perfect fit for my lanky frame, and the majority of my takes were on rising birds with a 3" load of 7-1/2's.

We are fortunate here with our regs- us slow old farts can still take birds with a rimfire or pellet rifle.

That Miroku rifle with it's chrome lined bore has seen all sorts of practice for me- I very rarely miss with it. That is not bragging- it is the result of better than 25 years work with the same rifle.
I would like to be able to shoot more than I have been for the last couple of years- the rust shows a bit in my pellet rifle shooting.

52's, Japanese or not, are an amazing rifle,

I used to take great pleasure in outshooting some of the 10\22 folks regularly back in the day,

the super uber cool modern 10\22 did not stand a chance against a nice 52 ( then it was a pre A) with irons or a Unertl,

only drawback was irons with an orange target, hard to focus,

but that 16x Unertl did not care , only irons was trouble for me
