Ok here is a tough question. I have just finished reading a Time life book on partisans. A large part of the book was about the Yugoslavians partisan groups. A lot of information about Tito and such.

What I found interesting is it said that in 1941 the partisan groups had forced the Germans from many areas and in doing so they captured alot of equipment left behind by the Germans. One of those was a rifle plant. The book goes on to say that the plant was moved and the partisans hid it and started making rifles for themselves.

Does any body have an idea if they were Mausers, and if they were would they have any special markings on them. Last how many would they have made. This could also be just a story but I hope there is more out there. I'm far from a Mauser expert on this as I only own maybe 6 rifles.

Any ideas from the Mauser experts?

Thanks

Mark

I'm not really into Mauser's (don't hate me!) but does the book explain about the partisan rifle making during that time? Such as were they crude rifles or decent rifles with identifiable markings? I only have one Yugo Mauser well maybe 2 but I don't count the M48 Mitchell Mauser that was given to me. But I do have a K98 with all the German markings intact (except the top) and it is marked Pred (something) 44.

....they weren't crude at all-I have been to the area and have toured the places they hid out and lived.......and my Granfather was a Partizan for a time, until the Germans and Italians were driven out-then the Communists took over, and since he wasnt a Commie they gave him 24 hours to grab what he could and the family-and leave....or they woould kill them all....they spent 3 days crossing the mountains witnessing all kinds of atrocities before they made it over the border into Austria where they stayed in a refugee camp untill they found someone to sponsor them here in the States and the Immigrated in 1949 and then became citizens.......(unlike certain ethnics from a southern bordering country)........(believe me,I'm leaving out LOTS of details  )

Herr Mario

Of the many books (partisan types) I have been reading during my down time I am finding in each one the same story as your grand father. Once the enemy was gone if you were not a true communist you did not belong.

I just finished the book about the Beliski Brothers who the new movie coming out called Defiance is about. It was a large group of Jewish partisans and in the book they had to act as communist's with the other partisan groups or they would not be treated so well.

It must have seemed at the time crazy as for years you had the Nazi's and in the end you had communism, either one if you were not a true follower of the belief you didn't belong! It was not just the Nazi's that hated certain peoples!

It would be nice to hear some of your grandfathers stories. Some things should never be forgotten so we don't repeat our selves.

Hmm Nazi's -- Communists=gun control
Todays liberals and do gooders= Maybe we have already forgotten!
