This was a topic of discussion on the old site so I thought I would start it here.

Modern weapons... 7.62X39 without a doubt, all the bad guys have em'. But I voted with CLG, for the 54r. That Stalin was a murderin SOB, I might have voted for .30 Tok, I wasn't sure how they blasted them during a purge.

Dang - that's a tough question. Really got me to thinking. I go with 7.62x39 as being perhaps the logical choice but one could make an pretty good argument for one or two others.
Suffice it to say, one hell of a lot have met their demise however.

I went with 8mm, WWI and WWII, the germans shot alot of who they killed, they didn't kill them all in camps. The russians did kill alot of thier own, but millions were starved when the farms were collectivized, and more were worked/starved to death in the gulags. The purged officers were shot, but more were killed by hunger and fatigue by stalin

ive avoided posting to this thread - i cannot any longer - while i realise those of you posting mean well - i find the topic a bit morbid to say the leaste and the subject line offensive

just me feeling a bit sensitive i guess , i like to look at the killing as a requirement of the fight , and those who participated as doing their duty , in other words a necessary thing done by those who would have chosen not to if the option were offered , but doing their job the best they could ,

i might have labled this one as "what caliber was the most popular in armed service" or "which caliber saw the most cambat"

I said 8mm simply because so many have used it for so long.

7.62x39r racked big numbers in Cambodia ,Laos, Vietnam, Afghanistan, the soviet union and or Russia and don't forget Africa. its a late starter but a strong finisher .there's no way to count the dead in some of those 3rd world hell holes.

8mm Mauser fought in both world wars and on two fronts. Artillery actually did more killing than bullets, far and away more. Think 90% of your casualties coming from artillery in both world wars.

The nuclear bombs only killed a very small percentage of total deaths by bombing. 100,000 people alone died in the Tokyo fire bombings, and that's bigger than Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Hamburg and Dresden rivaled both atomic sites with around 50,000 each.

Best Regards,

Mark

I say it was sub-caliber stuff. Like the germs from infections - dysentery - gangrene - more people died from disease than from weapons. SW
