Got a couple pics this morning just when the sun was coming up. It was chilly & heavy fog, but I got higher up in the buttes, visibility was better.

Flop ears giving Bambi the stink eye. There were several more deer, but most of them bounced away when I stopped.

Mixed bag = deer & turks. There's a nice freezer buck in this bunch. I don't have permission to hunt this ranch so I just shot 'em with the Canon.

And just for the fun of it, the Monkey Ranch. It takes a whole different skill set to raise monks. Especially at branding. Monks get a whiff of a hot branding iron, the fight is on! Roundup is a challenge, too they tell me. They get away from you & into the trees you'd just as well hop in the truck & go to town for coffee. Well, it's a tough job, but somebody has to do it. ;) SW

Looks like mulies from here. Also looks like a sentry Turk in the fore-ground of the 2nd pic~ almost as if the deer is on the receiving end of a warning glare ;)

What kind of fence do they gotta run for a monkey ranch? Can't imagine how the fencing would be done 8-)

Doc Sharptail

Joking aside, that ranch raises buffalo so the fence is tall and stout. There weren't any buff close to the road when we went by so no pic that way.

Younger daughter bought a couch out that way & weaseled me into helping move it. She tried for a shot of the ranch sign, but we were passing a bull rack, and you want to get around those promptly so you don't get splattered with :bull: ! :-o

The deer & turks are a small fraction of what was around there. I waited until I had some of both lined up for a shot. SW

Two days in a row me & little mutt found fresh moose tracks. I think a young bull got his butt kicked by the big boys & run clear out of Wyo. So I took a camera hoping for a pic. Not to be.

All we found was this buck with emerging antlers. Gave us the stink eye & right back to chewing on a bush. The entrance exam to be a deer isn't too difficult. SW

I used to almost step on whitetails like that when I was kid. I was even petting a doe once-I couldn't have been more than 7 years old. Turn into an adult, and everything runs from you.
Now that I'm approaching geezer-hood, I can get really close to sq's and wabbits. If only the deer and grouse would take the same hint ;)
Good luck on the Moose! Going on long term stand for those works sometimes.
I read somewhere that the scientific community is aware of moose moving into Nebr. No expert analysis as of yet.

Doc Sharptail
