At the same gun show where I scored the scope, a fellow was selling his "collection" most of which had seen much better days. I looked over an FN 1922 that was severely pitted - could have grabbed it for 100 but pass.

Under a few old brass frame BP revolvers was partially hidden a military HSc marked $350. It also didn't have much finish & seller guy allowed as how it needed "a little work". Grabbed it for a fraction of sticker price.

At home, I discovered the non working condition most likely related to the missing disconnector. Lo & behold there was a parts kit on gunborker with that part, unbroken grips and a slide appearing very much better.

Got it today & after all of 3 minutes, it was up & running like a champ! I'll sell the left over parts and have a cheep HSc. Parts comparison pics & the disconnector I easily installed.

Pics show replaced parts off the gun with improved parts in place, the disconnector & great barrel.

Pooping away my kids' inheritance one toy at a time! SW

For a +75 year old pistol, that bore ain't bad at all.

Going to brighten and re-blue the crown, before that patina decides it wants to grow? I've got a set of cotton polishing nubs for the dremel right beside me here. All they need is a bar of rouge, and ready to go...

Next move will be a function test after I finish swapping firing pins. In the better slide was a home made FP that I just don't trust. I'll probably stone down displaced metal on the barrel & go over it with steel wool rather than a polish. Scrubbing with a brass brush removed a lot of discoloring already.

I've been urged to refinish the entire gun, but I like the been there - did that look of the WW2 parts. SW

The more I looked at the home made firing pin, the more I shook my head. No telling how long the soft soldered mess would hold up. Probably until you really needed it. I've seen some odd home made parts over the years, but this one is in 1st place.

Drove out for a quick function test & it ripped right through a magazine! It even fed Winchester hollowpoints. I might have to set up for loading 32 auto now. SW

Dad had a .32. This is off 40 year old memory- it was the only auto in the house that would feed a cast bullet reliably, except for the .22s Minx. Pretty sure it was an astra- the one without the grip safety. It's throat was a bit on the generous side. Bullet was a funny looking cone shape off a Lyman mould. It had a long for caliber driving band, and reloaded easily with a light stroke on the ram through the sizing die. Seating was o.k.. We cast fairly hard 1 to 1-1/2 % tin to linotype from the old free press. Could not do the same for 380 or 9 mil. Both those moulds threw a short driving band/ogive.

It was a reasonably accurate light load.

Doc Sharptail
