A friend in Europe convinced me to try making it & so far -so good. It's very low alcohol content "bread beer" - 1% max if consumed within 3 days. I made half the recipe shown. My friend also said forget raisins and don't burn the toast. https://natashaskitchen.com/angelinas-e ... as-recipe/ Bring 5 qts water to a boil, add 5 slices toasted dark rye bread & let stand overnight. In the morning add 2 cups sugar and a package of yeast. Leave stand for 6 hours, stirring occasionally - then bottle. Pop bottles work best since they're intended to hold pressurized liquid. Ready for bottling here: cameraz 007 (2).JPG [ 1.41 MiB | Viewed 2881 times ] cameraz 010 (2).JPG [ 688.44 KiB | Viewed 2881 times ] We'll try it tonight when older daughter comes over. It's essentially very low alcohol content bread beer - quite popular in Eastern Europe. pic1a.png [ 399.75 KiB | Viewed 2881 times ] Everybody has their fave kvas lady. pic1c.png [ 304.31 KiB | Viewed 2881 times ] Even great for kindergarteners! pic1b.jpg [ 133.44 KiB | Viewed 2881 times ] |

Yep - regular bread yeast. Tastes like sweet beer right now, but that's supposed to change when yeast consumes more sugar. SW |

This is a very low alcohol content beverage. The sugar and yeast is mostly to make it fizzy. If it lasts 5 days (not likely, judging by how well it went over here) it would only be about 1% ABV. SW |

I've been making fermented apple juice and fermented grape juice by buying Walmart s apple/ grape juices, I started it by using hard cider. 10 years ago and still use one bottle before it's finished to start another. I let it ferment for a few days until it starts blott then let it stay in the refrigerator for another month releasing gas daily for the first couple weeks the it's delicious! |
