Attention New Members and those new registering! We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username. What did the Germans use on their stocks? Was it just BLO or what kind of finish did they use?

Probably whatever oil they had on hand during the war.
Spec wise I think it was linseed oil

Use Boiled, raw will never "cure"

I heard stories from my Grandfather that they would use motor oil on their rifles & frostbite cream on the action in the winter on them as it wouldn't freeze

Post subject: Raw Linseed Oil

I use Raw Linseed Oil (RLO) on my rifles, giving it 24 hours between coats and then vigorously hand rubbing it in between coats. Rub it till the wood is warm and then rub some more.

Although not a Mauser this Swiss 1893 Carbine gives a good idea. The pic below shows how I received it (blond stock), void of color.

Cleaned the wood up with denatured alcohol and applied several coats of RLO. Took this pic after several weeks and wood is taking on a nice natural glow and bringing out the wood color.
