Ball's Mauser book shows a photo and brief information about a Chinese copy of the M88 Commission rifle.

I saw one yesterday at the Lima, Ohio show. The only visible markings were on the receiver ring in what appeared to be Chinese. The stock, forearm wood, barrel and sights all looked like GEW98. According to Ball, these rifles were made at the Hengyang (Steel Works) arsenal.

When I first saw it, I thought it might have been a Turkish rearsenal job.

It saw was in pretty rough shape. The owner was asking somewhere around $350 for it.

Have any of you ever seen one of these rifles?

Krikey! I see them on the auctions for UNDER $100! These are normally in NRA POS cond with sewer pipe bores.

Here's the 1st one I found by using 'chinese' in the auction arms search bar. SW
