Yesterday's Weapons Forums

has Israeli Mausers for $140-$160, depending on mfr. These are Czech, Belgian or German Mausers converted to .308 by Israel. The rifles are listed as "fair" condition with cracked stocks by Century Arms.

Does anyone have any experience with these Israeli rifles? I always thought the German K98's would be pretty much shot out. These rifles, with a newer .308 barrel, might be in better shape.

I'm not really looking for a collector's item. I'd just like to have a good shooter. I'm willing to put in the time to clean out a gunked-up barrel and repair a cracked stock to get a nice rifle I can be proud of at the range.

....I recall seeing a post on another forum by a fella who bought 5 I think,with the same intention as you,but hopefully get enough parts together for 1 decent one.If I remember,he got lots of parts and was enough for one decent one and a 'wallhanger'-that the barrels and recievers were badly pitted and rusted below the woodline,but using various methods got them cleaned up nicely.Had enough parts to sell off to recoup his $$$ outlay...luck of the draw I suppose...

I got one about 9 years ago, I can't remember from where tho, I just saw the ad in shotgun news and had a buddy order it. It had started life as a k98. The barrel was sleeved, nothing else was done to make it a 7.62x51. It still had the original sights, and a few waffen amt markings. It was in really rought shape, I think they used them as fence posts after being taken out of service. When i shot it, that was the frst time i ever saw a bullet hit sideways, then I knew what key-holing looked like. The stock was not quite as nasty as the barrel, but not much less. I sold it as soon as I could, the guy said he was gonna rip it apart and use the action for something else. Personally, I'd use the money for another k31, but then that's just me.

The small rings set to shoot 7.62 are Spanish and not Israeli.

On gunboards they said these coming in are on the rough side.
