There must have been some other definitive factor for high values of split rear window beetles. They were the norm for the model until 59. The intro of the Super Beetle in 63 was really a big fat hairy deal here with free draw give aways of the new model. It sure had people talking for a while. Regards Doc Sharptail |

When I was in HS and started noticing car prices, full retail on a new V-Dub was like 1700. But I wanted a gas hog & went with a 60 Pontiac bubble top. SW |

Dad went down to look at one of the free draw base models. He didn't enter the draw because the car was so tiny. Same guy 15 years later buys an Austin Mini, so go figure.... He ended up with a Ford 500 instead of the Beetle. Myself test drove a 77 Westfalia V-dub camper van. Tried to turn the heater on, and the lever came off in my hand. Same with the turn signal arm. I did not buy it. German auto quality did not become the niche it is now for another 10 years... Regards, Doc Sharptail |

i had a 77 camper van , loved that chartreuse home on wheels , got great gas mileage but didnt pull my boat well , i would put it on a trailer chassis today without motor as a camper , it served that purpose very well , |
