My uncle had a '63 Polara 4 door hard top. By '63, they had gone back to the column mounted shifter. Our family car until '65 or so was a '53 Chev 2 door coupe. IIRC, the push button auto trans was available as an option on first production year Barracuda's. There was a lady down the street from us with a '62 or '63 Rambler 4 door sedan with the push button auto trans, and power rear window. Got flies in your Rambler? No problem. Power down the rear windshield and all 4 windows. Run it up to 30 mph and no more bugs. That old Chevy had the best sounding A.M. radio I have ever heard in my life. Regards, Doc Sharptail |

My first car was a 10 year old 1956 Desoto 4 door with a hemi engine, can't remember the cubic inch. It had push buttons for the trans. It cost me $150.00 that I earned loading and unloading semi's at a speaker factory. The thing was a tank, I think it weighed 5400 pounds. With a heavy tailwind going down hill on a steep grade you could get 80 out of it. AHHH the memories. |
