I think the silver one is Leno's Blastolene Special. It's running a tank engine I believe.

Worth clicking on this one!
There's one 57' in there~ next to the super eight.
Can't exactly remember the chrome layout- likely ford or merc.

If you were good enough to get factory sponsorship, they hooked you up with a cool
truck to haul the racer.

Some neat rides in this image from 1961. Well, there's one that isn't quite as neat as it was 1 hour before the pic. No cell phones then - she must have been applying makeup. SW

Loved the colors of those series Fords from '61-'63...

Incidentally, the bias belt tires that were standard equipment on new cars in that period were "interesting" (skid prone even on dry pavement) to drive with at freeway velocities...

Doc Sharptail

Nylon tires were tried for a while back then. In cold weather they'd get
a flat spot that thumped away for a few miles. Dad bought one set
and that was it. "Never again!" SW

Ford Thunderbird concept prototype.
I believe a '62 factory body was extensively re-worked here, unless the body is aluminum.
If so, it would have been all hand work.
Build quality is about equal to my '61 fordor hard-top. Note gapped work on kick panels below the doors.
The dark object at lower rear of the car is not part of the car. It's a walk-off carpet on the floor...

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

i might have been impressed in 62 , but a couple years later i fell in love with carol shelbys AC cobra , got to see the team race a few times and have been in love with that car ever since ,

always thought an original AC would be fun but the wood chassis did not age well ,

Looks like one to me as well.
I don't think they got into car body design until the Zil limousine series started...

Speaking of Hudsons…

1957 Sedan - last year they were made. Rather resembles a Rambler.

And just for fun - 1949 Diamond T pickup. When I was in HS, our neighbor down the road had one. Offered it to me for $50. He said all it needed was leaf springs. Being
all practical, Dad talked me out of it. "You'll never find parts for it!" He was right, of course. And in my younger & dumber days, I would soon have parted company with it for less than $50. It ran well, though. SW

Here's a '51 Hornet. Twin "H" motor.

Disney/Pixar based the judge character in the kid's movie "Cars" on this one.
Gotta find a pick of my grandad's Ford Woody wagon...

A genuine economy ride - the Fuji Cabin!

Designed in 1955, it went on sale in 1957. Boasting great gas mileage, only 85 units were sold which probably had something to do with the price of $650. Consider a new V-dub sold for not much more than that, featuring more room and a durable steel body.

The cabin wasn't entirely safe, either, being prone to tip over in tight turns over around 15MPH.

Not much for room in the fiberglass cockpit, but it was aimed at the Japanese market. It was a great concept that wanted better marketing. SW
